Well, isn’t that nice

At CNN today:

(CNN) – A total of 250 clerics in the Boston Archdiocese have been accused of child abuse in recent decades, according to information made public Thursday by Cardinal Sean O’Malley in an attempt to help resolve an issue tearing at the core of Catholicism.

Democrats’ idea of bipartisanship

Print This Post

From the LA Times:

[Rep (D-Los Angeles) Maxine] Waters vowed to push Congress to focus on creating more jobs. “I’m not afraid of anybody,” said Waters. “This is a tough game. You can’t be intimidated. You can’t be frightened. And as far as I’m concerned, the ‘tea party’ can go straight to hell.”

Democrat, Republican, or Other?

Print This Post

Well, the Republicans had their debate the other night, if you want to call it that.  Given some of the questions I heard (I popped in and out, admittedly mostly out but did I get a random sampling) there wasn’t much of an opportunity to impress.  Or at least I didn’t hear any answers that were particularly impressive.

Casey Anthony trial over — almost (updated)

Print This Post

[Update at bottom]

Interesting to see the uproar regarding the outcome (not guilty except for lying to the police).

I have to wonder how many people with an solid opinion actually watched the trial, versus hearing the “experts” on that most noble and informative of sources, the “Mainstream Media.”  And of those who did watch, I wonder how many did so with a critical eye.

I can’t agree with Bill Posey all the time

Print This Post

Well, I’ve said before that if we were ever able to take a large broom and sweep the incumbents en masse out of Washington I’d leave Bill Posey there.  It is a rare day that I disagree with his votes, and I review them regularly.

Congressman Jeff Denham wants to run airlines, too?

From here:

A California congressman has introduced a resolution calling for airlines to waive baggage fees for all U.S. troops deployed for service — and those commercial airlines that refuse to do so could have their contracts reevaluated.

Driving into the North Sea?

Print This Post

So, there’s the road, a causeway according to The Daily Mail, that is subject to tidal flow.

Well, that’s rather like driving on the beach, isn’t it?  I mean, you don’t drive your car way down to water’s edge and leave it there, do you?  Can you say, “Tide’s coming in!”?

Joplin firefighters and New Orleans cops

Think maybe they’ve been hanging together…

Emergency situation to them means go loot the place.

Three firefighters are fired and the Baxter Springs fire chief is placed on administrative leave while an investigation is underway into the looting of Joplin businesses on the night of the May 22nd tornado.

Gates blasts NATO — don’t think it doesn’t affect you

Print This Post

Recently, outgoing Secretary of Defense Robert Gates laid into many NATO members while praising a few others.  Here is part of the best article I’ve read on the subject, and I have read many.  And if you don’t think our membership in the NATO alliance is worthy of note, you are trillions of dollars and thousands of lives off the mark.  Our NATO membership is tremendously important, not necessarily in either a good or bad way, depending on your viewpoint, but important and of major impact nevertheless.

So, Delta is in PR hot water for charging soldiers returning from Afghanistan for their 4th bag of luggage, something they were not prepared to pay because first, they understandably didn’t have that much cash ($200), and second, who needs a credit card in a war zone?

The IRS strikes a friend

Hadn’t seen him since a rather quick departure.  One day he was there in that house and later in the week he was gone and there was a For Sale sign in the front yard.  For sale by a bank, not a realtor.

So it was then.. Who was it going to bomb there?

Oh yeah.  It was the U.S.

And who refused overflight permission?

Uh, thinking hard now…. yep, it was France, wasn’t it?

Hmmmm.  Just saw news reports that somebody is shooting down Libyan military aircraft.

David asks part of the question:

Can corrupt government legitimately decide who it allows to keep and bear arms?

Go there to read his article.

My response is, “Of course not.”

But there is a deeper question.  Why should any government tell me what I can use to defend my life?

TSA and The Milgram Experiment

As Rep John Mica encourages airports to drop TSA screening in favor of contract screening (which would still have to follow TSA-directed procedures), likely to be followed by the hiring of already trained currently in-service employees, I begin to wonder two things.

Government-run health care. Ad exemplum: the Veterans Administration

Print This Post

I’m weary of people who have little to nothing to do with such a system telling me what US Government-run health care is all about.  Some are familiar with Medicare, some are past active duty military, and some look totally from the wayside, but all have opinions.  They disturb me as much as those who bitch and complain, and as much as those who lovingly support, a health care bill they haven’t read.

I’m sorry, Ralph, I didn’t make it

Ralph, I tried, man.  I really tried.

I dropped Ruth off at the airport a lot earlier than usual because we knew they had the porno scanners in operation now and the lines were supposed to be longer than ever before.  From there I turned on the seat heater, lowered the air conditioning temperature, and headed directly to Miami, intending to be staying at a hotel 9 miles away from the funeral home, where I intended to be for the viewing/visitation that ended at 2000.

I’ve read their book. They can have it. It is a tome of violence and repression at virtually every level. It reads less as a guide for life in a civilized society and more like a manual of war and domination.

And I’ve tried to draw the line between the radicals and the “others,” whoever/whatever that means.

HOW many prescription meds are on that list?

Print This Post

AD has a post well worth reading (not that most his aren’t!) regarding what one might consider an overabundance of prescription medications.  It reminds me of a time when my mother, now deceased, had 17 different medications on her daily intake list.  It was as if no doctor ever considered reviewing the list and seeing if perhaps there might be some redundancy, or, even more important in my opinion, if there might be conflicts (surely there must have been?!) among them.
