For those behind the veterans

Print This Post

For those who bother to recognize Veterans Day, thank you.  And I’d ask that you think about it just a bit further.

For every veteran out there is a mother or father, sister or brother, who missed them while they were gone and in service.  That’s sacrifice, too.

I continually see articles about how overweight our society is becoming; it seems lately there are even more articles about children being overweight/obese with the numbers of those children on the rise.

Great moments in cooking

Desire for key lime anything increasing over the last week or so, I picked up a tub of Philadelphia (cream cheese) brand “Key Lime Pie Filling” and a 9-inch graham cracker pie crust.

Yes, it’s been quite some time since…

Had tree roots push down the irrigation PVC in the front yard and push down one sprinkler unit.  The thing ended up 3 inches below ground, and that’s DIRT, level, farther than that below clear-the-grass-to-spray level.

Got out the SawsAll (great tool — my second one) and cut roots from above, around, and below the sprinkler.  Had to replace the sprinkler unit though.

New Orleans, Day 3 update #1

I’d taken a sleeping pill earlier in the evening last night and had waited as late as I could to let them out for their evening constitutional.

New Orleans, Day 2

0140 Tuesday morning.

Well, that was interesting.

I am probably persona non grata in the city when this gets out (heh, as if anybody actually reads this blog), but I fell asleep watching the Saints game last night, held in the Superdome right here in the city.  Don’t know why I was so tired, but I was.  And something I did, I shouldn’t have.

New Orleans, Day 1

Good day for travel — airport not crowded and aircraft maybe 1/2 to 1/3 full.  TSA their usual deadpan, faceless automatron selves.  There must be a requirement that they have no personality.

The Weekend Part 2

Had to take a break and do it in parts.  I don’t know if it’s the bag drag or the flights, but the day after each flight has been hell on my back and neck.

Let’s see…where were we?

Ah yes.  We’re in New Orleans and it’s Saturday evening.

The Weekend Part 1

Worked a cross country event on Friday and again on Saturday.
And then, the REAL race began…

She had already gone directly from work/school to the airport on Friday while I was at the event and was therefore a day ahead of me.

Pressure Wash Follies - Update

[Update item added at #10 below]

For the first time in a week, yesterday I didn’t run the pressure washer.

It all began over a week ago with her comment that the patio (full width of the back of the house, covered and screened) was stained.

Well, yes.

Has it REALLY been that long? Part 2

The tulips opened quite nicely and the Irises were gorgeous.  They still are.

The edibles were excellent and I’ll admit to having more than my share of the chocolate dipped strawberries.  I’d estimate at this point there is maybe one fifth of the arrangement left.  It will be gone by the end of the day tomorrow, guaranteed.

So, I made reservations for supper Sunday night at a restaurant we normally wouldn’t even consider going to because of the cost, and we may regret having done so by Monday morning, but what the hell, it’s a special occasion.

Musings of the day

Ruth is getting perilously close to going back to school (work).  It’s interesting to watch the same mix of emotions regarding it that the students have.  It should be interesting with the initial year of student ”uniforms,”  and I use the term loosely, and only because the school board does.  Buy them wherever you like — no uniform store — I’m betting on at least three shades of khaki and even more of blue.  New principal this year, too, as is the case with my sister’s school.

At your ripe old age of going on three, you won’t be reading this, and even if it were read to you it doesn’t have the pizazz of The Cat In The Hat.  But, I’ve been thinking of this for some time now and it is time I made the commitment.
