The short of it:

Wisconsin teachers’ union owns THE insurance company.  No competition due to collective bargaining.

Their insurance company is free to, and does, raise rates every year.

But they don’t pay it, the taxpayers do.

Insurance company, fat cat, donates big bucks to their favorite political party (guess which one).

Rates continue to go up, taxpayer continues to pay.  Collective bargaining is a wonderful thing.  If you’re a Wisconsin teacher.

Governor puts an end to it.

Some school districts go from tremendous shortfalls to tremendous surplus by paying an insurance company that won by competitive bidding.  “Insurance costs that had been about $2.5 million a year will now be around $1.8 million.”

No surprise here.

And that is why I am totally against unionizing of government employees.  Among other additionall reasons; I’ve seen it, supervised it, and been hamstrung by it.
