Toyota’s next step?
So, Toyota is recalling a tremendous number of vehicles because of runaway, uncommanded engine speed. It’s about time.
Everything I’m reading regarding the recall is about the accelerator.
But it doesn’t take much reading of blogs and owners’ forums to realize the problem is not with the mechanical accelerator. It’s rather hard to see how it can be the mechanical accelerator when an owner takes the vehicle in to a dealer while the engine is still racing and both he and the dealer can move the accelerator back and forth with no effect on the engine speed.
The next step will probably be in the computer controlled circuitry of the engine throttling system, not the mechanical accelerator. I just wonder how much money Toyota will have left in the kitty after all the families of killed and injured victims get through suing them.
