As a track and field official I hope/expect at some point, but not soon, to add being a Starter to my skills, so I’ve been paying as much attention as I can to what they do and how they do it.  When I’m working field events, my usual assignments, it’s hard to actually do any watching over there on the track, but I’m conscious of the Starter’s activities in general.

Don’t bullshit me, Senator.

By doing so you only dig the hole deeper; you further evidence the increasingly common belief that is quickly solidifying as fact that politicians are utterly incapable of speaking the truth.

The day after you voted on the spending bill referred to as a stimulus package, I emailed you and asked, “Did you actually read the bill before you voted for it?”

I’ve had the heating system on this year more than in the past several years combined.  And now this.

Most everyone around here has lost just about everything in terms of plants and many shrubs; grass is in very bad shape.  I’m working a track meet on Saturday at Daytona Beach — the Atlantic breeze should be interesting.  We were at the same temperatures about 5 weeks ago there for an earlier meet.  I won’t be wearing shorts at this one, either!

It doesn’t happen very often, but once in a great while I fall into something absolutely wonderful, and it happened again last week when i received in the mail a document from a friend.  The document chronicles the historic flight of a Pan American World Airways Boeing 314, a large seaplane, as it flew around the world.

A fiscal idea

I’m against the federal government messing in business, especially to the extent of determining private enterprise salaries at any level, but if the Fed is going to do it anyway, I think it’s appropriate that the rules be expanded:

THE STIMULUS IS A STEP TOWARDS A SOVIET AMERICA
Written by Senator Tom Coburn
Tuesday, 10 February 2009[Senator Coburn recently gave this speech on the floor of the Senate]

We are going in exactly the wrong direction. We ought to be standing on the principles that made this country great. There ought to be a review of every program in the Federal Government that is not effective, that is not efficient, that is wasteful or fraudulent, and we ought to get rid of it right now. We ought to say, Gone, to be able to pay for a real stimulus plan that might, in fact, have some impact.

I’m not really sure if I want the Senate to get anything done or not; it seems most of what they do screws up life for everyone outside their clubhouse and/or takes away something the Constitution rather clearly says they cannot take away.
