So, I’m supposed to be so safe on Walt Disney World property that they prohibit concealed weapons by background-checked, law-abiding, permit-holding citizens?
While I was at Magic Kingdom today, an armed kidnapping/hostage-taking, bus-hijacking thug was roaming around Downtown Disney among the crowd and neither Disney Security nor the Orange County Sheriff’s Department could do anything about it. Luckily, once there he apparently committed no further violent crimes to ruin someone’s day.
Though licensed, I wouldn’t carry a gun in a Disney park even if it were allowed simply because there is virtually never a safe field of fire. That’s my judgement. Downtown Disney is, however, a quite different environment. This is the second incident in recent memory involving major crime and Downtown Disney.

Peeling Scotch Tape Emits X-Rays, Startling Study Finds
Wednesday, October 22, 2008
Associated Press
NEW YORK — Just two weeks after a Nobel Prize highlighted theoretical work on subatomic particles, physicists are announcing a startling discovery about a much more familiar form of matter: Scotch tape.
It turns out that if you peel the popular adhesive tape off its roll in a vacuum chamber, it emits X-rays. The researchers even made an X-ray image of one of their fingers.

In March of 1970 I had been in the Air Force for six and a half years and had completed a tour in Vietnam. I took an oath and I lived up to it.
Bill Ayers and his group were targeting Fort Dix because it was convenient; they targeted a social event including young girls because of pure hatred.
If I’d been in the Army I could have been at Fort Dix. Or if Bill Ayers hadn’t been so lazy he could have been targeting any other installation, including mine. Perhaps he should still be a target today.

The absolutely worst time to buy is when the calendar is packed for three weeks hence and the range may as well be a thousand miles away. Horrible time, it is. But I can sit here with it on the desk and look at it, knowing that I finally got into the 1911 series. This will be my last handgun, of that I am sure. I just couldn’t pass it up any longer though; I’ve been reading users’ comments about it and read my latest gun-mag review two months ago. Since then the fire has been burning and I’ve been watching Internet pricing.

In a way I think he’s finally getting even for past differences with his endorsement of Obama. Reading the text of his interview it seems so thin it’s almost unbelievable that someone of his intelligence couldn’t come up with a better cover.
His statement on taxes just blows me away:
Taxes are always a redistribution of money. Most of the taxes that are redistributed go back to those who paid them, in roads and airports and hospitals and schools. And taxes are necessary for the common good. And there is nothing wrong with examining what our tax structure is or who should be paying more, who should be paying less. And for us to say that that makes you a socialist, I think is an unfortunate characterization that isn’t accurate.

Had to take a break and do it in parts. I don’t know if it’s the bag drag or the flights, but the day after each flight has been hell on my back and neck.
Let’s see…where were we?
Ah yes. We’re in New Orleans and it’s Saturday evening.
Our sons, grandson, and newest daughter-in-law had flown in from CA, IA, and MD. It was a mini-reunion of sorts and we were to have supper with my mother, sister, and aunt, all of whom still live in the New Orleans area.

Worked a cross country event on Friday and again on Saturday.
And then, the REAL race began…
She had already gone directly from work/school to the airport on Friday while I was at the event and was therefore a day ahead of me.
The last race on Saturday was scheduled for an 1155 start and I had made an 1810 (6:10 p.m. and from here on out do the math) airline reservation to New Orleans. Shouldn’t be a problem at all — plenty of time to go home, shower, and make a leisurely drive to the airport. Wasn’t sure what to expect on a three-day weekend, but I’d think most folks would be in place by Saturday evening.

Some folks don’t have the resources to evacuate before a storm barrels down their throats, so they stay in place and grit it out — they have few choices. Evacuation isn’t cheap no matter how you accomplish it. Some have no means of leaving in the first place.
Others get out of Dodge and come home later to find anything from no damage at all to total devastation.

Well, it’s 451 pages long (pdf). Did you read it?
Did those politicians in Washington did before they voted on it?
How does THIS grab you in a no-earmarks-no-pork-we’ve-got-to-do-this-NOW bill?
What are we going to do about this out of control government and when do we do it?

[Update item added at #10 below]
For the first time in a week, yesterday I didn’t run the pressure washer.
It all began over a week ago with her comment that the patio (full width of the back of the house, covered and screened) was stained.
Well, yes.
A few years ago I had built tables across the entire rear edge and installed drip irrigation for more pots than could fit, so she could put potted plants anywhere she wanted to back there. Partial sunlight, reasonable wind protection, easy frost prevention, and total water control.

From the Associated Press:
SYDNEY, Australia — A 7-year-old boy broke into a popular Outback zoo and fed a string of animals to the resident crocodile, the zoo’s director said today.
The boy jumped a security fence at the Alice Springs Reptile Center in central Australia early Wednesday, then used a rock to slay three lizards which he then fed to an 11-foot, 440-pound saltwater crocodile, said zoo director Rex Neindorf.
The boy, whose acts were caught on the zoo’s security camera, also threw several live animals over the two fences surrounding the crocodile’s enclosure, at one point climbing over the outer fence to get closer to the giant reptile.

So the bailout plan has passed.
And as of a few minutes ago, a CNN online Quick Poll showed:
The $700 billion bailout plan is:
| A needed fix for the economy |
28% |
46880 |
| A political payout to Wall Street |
72% |
119191 |
| Total Votes: 166071 |
The politicians represent whom?
They simply don’t care what the citizens think. The politicians know better what’s good for us.
Bullshit.

With all the hoopla about Governor Palin, I still am not seeing coverage of an angle that I’ve been considering even before anyone was announced as John McCain’s running mate.
I seriously doubt that who his Vice Presidential running mate is really makes much difference. Not in the long run, anyway. A difference in McCain’s electability? Oh yes, but a difference in how the government will run if McCain is in the Presidential chair? I doubt it.
Look at McCain’s history.
